Epson is currently one of the largest printer manufacturers in the world and many of its direct
competitors are manufacturing scanners as well. This is why Epson is taking their scanners lineup very
seriously as they continue to encourage customers like you to get a complete set of Epson products for your
home and office needs. The Epson V700 is one of the older models available so you can probably get it for a
lower price. The features are still impressive for professional use.

Features
The Epson V700 is part of the Perfection family so it is geared towards professional users that
need top quality results. The 6,400 dpi resolution specification greatly helps in this situation so it can cover
large varieties of photographs. Color quality is reproduced nicely because it does it in 48-bit color and 16-bit
grayscale when necessary. The 6,400 dpi is enough to scan 17 by 22-inch photographs.
Unlike regular home scanners, the Epson V700 features a Dual Lens system where the scanner
intelligently chooses between the two to get the best results. Support for older and damaged photos is greatly
enhanced thanks to the inclusion of Digital ICE technologies. These technologies use both the hardware and software
power to correct many kinds of imaging defects. Both film and print are supported and have their own mechanisms for
restoring the photo in a single stop.
Faded color photos and negatives can also be improved using the Epson Easy Photo Fix feature. After
you scan the document, you can fix the photo in a single clip. Some of the corrections that can be applied include
Backlight Correction and Grain Reduction. Finally, the included film holders allow multiple 35mm slides to be
scanned to make operations quicker.
Customer Reception
When the device came out back in 2006, critics praised the 6,400 dpi resolution which was
considered high at its time. Customers nowadays are still commenting positively on the Epson V700 for being very
easy to use. Common success stories revolve around the ease in scanning multiple 35mm negatives. Some features like
the ability to scan and repair old photos takes some time to learn, but customers do report that these features
work properly.
Power Tips
The SilverFast SE software which comes with the Epson V700 is a great tool for carrying out
scanning operations. It does not feature many advanced editing tools so it would be best to get the latest version
from the SilverFast website. It would also help to combine the old scanner with a modern photo editing tool like
Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Buying Guide
The Epson V700 was originally priced above $600, but you can probably get it for around $500 in
other places like Amazon. That is still pricey for a scanner considering the many more affordable and newer
scanners out there. However, this is a professional grade scanner and isn't recommended for scanning ordinary
documents due to the warm up times. This scanner is meant for people that want to take advantage of the 6,400 dpi
and 8 x 10-inch transparency unit. The performance still meets today's standards in a professional level especially
when it comes to its cost.
